1 – US’ Nord Stream Sabotage May Cause Countries to Quit NATO, Says Seymour Hersh

The United States’ decision to blow up the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines may have a detrimental effect on NATO’s unity, warned investigative journalist Seymour Hersh who earlier this month delivered an exposé on the sabotage.
In an exclusive interview with one Canadian digital media outlet, Hersh argued that Biden “committed a great mistake” by destroying the pipelines that provided Germany with much-needed natural gas.
Biden’s actions regarding the Nord Stream have revealed his real attitude towards Germany and NATO, Hersh suggests.
“He’s told Germany and NATO ‘When push comes to shove, I’ll throw you over the wall. You can be cold, I don’t care. If you’re not giving enough money to Ukraine, screw you’,” the journalist said.
He added that “the question now is who’s going to be the first country to leave NATO?”
Hersh also argued that Biden is “lying now to push us into war,” comparing his actions to those of the 36th US President Lyndon B. Johnson who used a bogus attack on US warships in the Gulf of Tonkin as a pretext for entering the Vietnam War in 1964.
Earlier in February, Hersh accused the United States’ leadership of orchestrating the destruction of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines in late September 2022.
Citing sources familiar with the planning of this operation, Hersh claimed that US Navy divers planted explosive charges on the pipelines during summer 2022 under the cover of a NATO military exercise in the Baltic Sea. The explosives were then reportedly detonated remotely three months later so as to avoid casting suspicion on the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Germany now mulls the possibility of using the pipes left over from the Nord Stream 2 construction – currently stored at Germany’s Rugen island – to build a pipeline for transporting liquefied natural gas from a yet-to-be-built LNG terminal, German media has reported.
This situation, however, is complicated by the sanctions imposed by the US and the EU against Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, since the pipes belong to Russian energy giant Gazprom, one of the sanctioned entities.

2 – Number of countries wishing to join BRICS, SCO booms in 2022 — Lavrov
MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. The number of countries that wish to join the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) rose to about two dozen in 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.
“Notably, the number of countries wishing to join BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization rose dramatically in the past two years, including the first year of the special military operation. The number currently stands at about two dozen,” he pointed out at a meeting with heads of the Foreign Ministry’s branches in Russian regions.
The top diplomat emphasized that these are countries that “really play a very important role in their regions.” “They include Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Argentina, Mexico and a number of African nations,” Lavrov went on to say. “Just listing the names points to the failure of [Western] attempts to isolate our country,” he added.
According to the Russian foreign minister, the effect has been the opposite. “The understanding of the current developments as a tectonic geopolitical process pushes countries, which feel themselves independent and are guided by national interests rather than someone’s whims, to unite with those whom they see as like-minded. And here we have a huge opportunity for interaction with our colleagues,” Lavrov concluded.
3 – G20 Summit 2023: EAM Dr S Jaishankar, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov to touch on regional topics
G20 Summit 2023: Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (February 28) said that the country’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will touch on a number of regional topics, including developments in Ukraine during Lavrov’s visit to India for the G20.
As part of the visit bilateral events, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will discuss ways to further advance cooperation in key areas, as well as coordinate the schedule of upcoming contacts. The main thematic blocks include- trade, investment, transport and logistics cooperation, the use of national currencies in mutual settlements, and promising projects in the energy sector.
“The ministers will exchange views on topical international matters, including interaction under India’s SCO chairmanship and G20 presidency, as well as coordination of approaches in the UN, BRICS and RIC. They will also touch on a number of regional topics, including the creation of security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region, the current state of Afghanistan, and developments in Ukraine,” it added.
