What follows is a critical, spiritually-minded review of what John 1:1-2 actually says, free of the traditions and doctrines of men that have attempted to veil its true and very simple meaning for the past 2000 years.
The word “word” means exactly what it says; the word is a means of communication. And, unsurprisingly, the Word of God proceeds from God.
John 1:1-2 KJV
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
BEFORE the Beginning
Before the beginning of time, before there was language – both of which God created – God exists. Please note well the correct use of the word “exists”, which is a present-tense verb because God has no beginning, nor any end.
Psalm 90:2 BEFORE the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou [art] God.
God is the self-existing ONE (Exod. 3:14; Deut. 6:4; Zech. 14:9; Mark 12:29), NOT a “trinity”. One actually means one; it does NOT mean 3=1 or 1=3 or anything other than one. There is only ONE Almighty God, Who is The Most High (Psalm 57:2; Luke 1:32-35; Sura 2:255), i.e. greater than ALL (John 10:29).
Before God created anyone or anything, God exists. Before time began there would have been no need for the Word (communication) in any form, as there was no one else with which to communicate.
In the Beginning
John 1:1-2 KJV
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
The first creation of God was His Firstborn/Eldest Son Michael (Col. 1:15; Rev. 3:14), known here on Earth by His TITLE: Christ.
Colossians 1:12-15
1:12 GIVING THANKS UNTO THE FATHER, Which hath made us meet to be sharers of the inheritance of the holy people in Light:
1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into The Kingdom of His dear Son:
1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:
1:15 Who is the IMAGE of the INVISIBLE God, the FIRSTBORN of every CREATURE*:
*Note Well:
IMAGE = LIKENESS. The Hebrew name “Micha-El” literally means “Who is LIKE God?”. Like Michael, we (the spiritual-Beings/Souls) were made in God’s IMAGE/LIKENESS, but we certainly are NOT God the Father, and neither is anyone else, including Christ (Matt. 23:9; Sura 33:40).
INVISIBLE = NOT VISIBLE. No one has ever seen God (John 1:18; John 5:37), but thousands upon thousands saw Jesus, the human son of the virgin Mary, into/inside whom Prince Michael/Christ was incarnated.
FIRSTBORN = THE FIRST CREATED/THE FIRST TO BE BROUGHT INTO EXISTENCE.
CREATURE = SOME LIVING THING THAT WAS CREATED.
Revelation 3:14 And unto the angel of the community of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness (Rev. 1:5), THE BEGINNING OF THE CREATION OF GOD;
The moment that God created Michael, God became known as Father (Matt. 6:9), and Michael became His Son (yes, a true Father-Son relationship – 1 John 2:22). And it was in that moment when both time and language began.
After God created Michael, God showed Michael everything, creating everyone and everything else by and for Michael (Col. 1:16).
Hebrews 1:1-4
1:1 God, Who at sundry times and in diverse manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the Prophets,
1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [His] Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds;
1:3 Who being the brightness of [His] glory, and the express IMAGE of His person, and upholding all things by The Word of His power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of His Majesty on high;
1:4 Being MADE so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 5:19-20
5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do NOTHING of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever He doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
5:20 For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that Himself doeth: and He will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
The Word “Was”
John 1:1-2 KJV
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
The word “was” is the simple past-tense form of the word “be”.
Because it is past-tense, the word “was” describes a previous state of someone or something, meaning something changed, or no longer exists. And John 1:1-2 is past-tense throughout the passage.
So what was it that changed in the beginning?
Did God change? Certainly not.
Malachi 3:6 For I [am] the “I AM”, I CHANGE NOT; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Did God’s Word/Message of Truth change? Again, no it didn’t.
Numbers 23:19 God [is] NOT a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do [it]? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the Word of our God shall stand FOR EVER.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of Light, with Whom is NO variableness, neither a hint of turning.
Did Christ, The Word of God (Rev. 19:13) MADE flesh, perhaps change? God forbid.
Hebrews 13:8 Christ the Saviour the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
What changed in the beginning, when God created the heaven and the earth, was the need for God to share His Word/Truth with His Creation, beginning with Michael, since God was no longer alone. From that moment onward, it was God, the Father and His Son, Michael working together to create everyone and everything else. The very act of God choosing to create Michael FIRST made Michael the Anointed Prince and Heir to God’s Kingdom (the Universe).
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify Thou me with Thine Own self with the glory which I had with Thee BEFORE THE WORLD WAS.
Note: God is a Spirit (Spiritual-Being), and so are all of His children (Psalm 82:6), beginning with Michael. God does NOT procreate human children (Sura 2:116-117; Sura 112); there is no queen of heaven (Jer. 44:17-25).
The Word – Logos

The word “word” by definition, is as follows, according to the Cambridge dictionary:-
word noun (LANGUAGE UNIT):
a single unit of language that has meaning and can be spoken or written
With regard to speaking, it can also mean “a short discussion or statement”, e.g. may I have a word with you please? It can also be a statement of approval, e.g. If you see the captain (Heb. 2:10) would you please put in a good word for me?
In the original Greek New Covenant/Testament, the word “logos” is found over 60 times, where it is translated into English as: word, the word, message, communication, report, saying, statement and tidings, depending upon its context. It therefore can refer to the unspoken Word (telepathy/vision), the verbal Word (as spoken by God’s Prophets), the written Word (e.g. the Bible) or the flesh-and-blood example of the Word (Christ, The Word OF God MADE flesh – incarnated inside the human body called Jesus, instead of being called Emmanuel – Matt. 1:23 – meaning “God with us”), sent by God.
Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

As the Word (Logos) comes FROM God, God’s Word – regardless of how it is delivered – IS Truth. And who better to express God’s Word to us than His Anointed and Appointed Messenger, whom God made in His express image and personally taught and trained? That’s exactly why God sent us His Firstborn/First-CREATED Son – the Great Prince Michael – to march into hell for a heavenly cause, and deliver His Word/Truth to mankind.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through Thy Truth: Thy Word is Truth.
With God
John 1:1-2 KJV

No rationally-minded individual would ever seriously say they were with themselves. How could God be with God? God IS God. And God’s Word is the Scripture of TRUTH (Dan. 10:21) that has always been WITH Him, because God is THE Source of ALL Truth.
The word “with” is specifically used to state that two or more people (plural) or things (plural) are in the same place together or are doing something together:
Shouldn’t we all be learning to walk the walk WITH God? Shouldn’t we be following the beautiful example God gave us in Christ (Exod. 23:20-23; Matt. 12:30; John 14:6; Sura 3:55; Sura 33:21)? Christ, The Angel/Messenger of God, whom God created, was sent to be The Mediator/High-Priest between God and men (1 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 6:20), to teach us about God (Matt. 23:10; John 16:25; Rev. 10), so that we may become one WITH God and His Christ, united and determined to DO God’s Will, as Christ does (John 6:38, John 7:16-17).
John 17:11, 20-25
17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to Thee. Holy Father, keep through Thine own name those whom Thou hast given me, that they may be ONE, as We [are].
17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe me through their word;
17:21 That they all may be ONE; as Thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in Thee, that they also may be ONE in Us: that the world may believe that Thou hast sent me.
17:22 And the glory which Thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be ONE, even as We are One:
17:23 I in them, and Thou in me, that they may be made perfect in ONE; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent me, and hast loved them (John 3:16), as Thou hast loved me.
17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my Glory, which Thou hast given me: for Thou lovedst me BEFORE the foundation of the world.
17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known Thee: but I know Thee, and these have known that Thou hast sent me.
How can anyone hope to be ONE with God and with Christ, whom God sent, other than by getting to know Them personally, and love Them as they really are?
John 17:3 And THIS is Life Eternal, that they might KNOW Thee the ONLY True God, AND Christ the Saviour, whom Thou hast sent.
And how can anyone hope to walk with God and do His Will, other than by privately asking Him what His Will is for them, in other words what He wants them to do for Him, in every moment and with every decision?
Matthew 6:9-10
6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
6:10 Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven.
The Word OF God was MADE flesh
The Greek word ἐγένετο (egeneto) is found over 200 times in the New Covenant, including in John 1:3 and again in John 1:14. It (egeneto) is translated into English as “made”, “became”, “came to pass” or “arose” depending upon its context; however all of these translations still mean the same thing, as nothing is made nor comes to pass without God’s say so (Psalm 33:9; Sura 2:117; Sura 36:82).
John 1:1-14
1:1 In the Beginning was the Word (Truth – in Hebrew is Nazir – see: John 17:17), and the Truth was with God (NOT with Lucifer/Satan the Devil), and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the Beginning with God.
1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men.
1:5 And the Light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light (John 8:3), that all [men] through the Light might believe.
1:8 He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light (Isa. 40:3).
1:9 [That] was the True Light, which Lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him (Heb. 1:2), and the world (humans) knew him not (could not SEE him inside the body of Jesus).
1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the (adopted) sons of God, [even] to them that believe in his identity:
1:13 Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man (human), but of God (Who is Spirit – John 4:24).
1:14 And the Word was MADE flesh (incarnated), and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only incarnated of the Father) full of Grace and Truth (Nazir in Hebrew).
There are, of course, many additional references in Scripture to God having MADE Christ-Jesus, i.e. Christ, the Saviour, whom God anointed, appointed to be His Heir, and sent to deliver His Word/Truth to the world.
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the House of Israel know ASSUREDLY, that God hath MADE that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Hebrews 5:5-11
5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made The High Priest; but He that said unto him, Thou art My Son, to day have I incarnated thee.
5:6 As He saith also in another [place], Thou [art] a Priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
5:7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
5:9 And being MADE perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
5:10 Called BY God an High Priest after the order of Melchizedek.
5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

It should also be obvious that neither the words “Jesus” nor “is”, nor the phrase “Jesus is God” are actually found anywhere in John 1:1-2, nor anywhere else in Scripture, either directly or by inference. In fact, nowhere in Scripture does it ever tell us that Jesus is God.
John 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
John 7:16-17
7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me.
7:17 If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.
John 7:28-29
7:28 Then cried Jesus in The Temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but He that sent me is True, Whom ye know not.
7:29 But I know Him: for I am from Him, and He hath sent me.
John 8:33 Jesus said unto them, IF God WERE your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent me.
John 8:45 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of Whom ye say, that He is your God:
John 12:49-50
12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
12:50 And I know that His commandment is Life Everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The Words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.
John 21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that Jesus’ testimony is true.
Prince Michael/Christ IS very clearly and repeatedly described in Scripture as the Son OF God, the firstborn (first brought into existence) of every creature. The firstborn Son of the King is the Prince and heir to the Kingdom, by inheritance, according to God’s Law (Deut. 21:17).
The title “Messiah” (Hebrew) / “Christ” (from the Greek “Christos”) literally means “The One Whom God Anointed”. So someone would need to completely ignore hundreds of verses, nay the entirety of the Scripture of Truth (the Word of God), to mistakenly believe that God:
allegedly decided to be His own son;
allegedly decided to refer to Himself as “the firstborn” (the first brought into existence);
allegedly decided to refer to Himself (The Creator) as a creature;
allegedly decided to refer to Himself – The King Ruler of the Universe – as a Prince;
allegedly made Himself in His own image;
allegedly anointed Himself;
allegedly sat down at His own right-hand;
allegedly is with Himself;
allegedly sent Himself;
allegedly became a man (human), even though He said that could never happen;
allegedly appointed Himself to be His own heir;
allegedly appointed Himself to be the only mediator between Himself and man;
allegedly appointed Himself to be the High Priest between Himself and man;
allegedly sent Himself to be the Teacher while role-playing as the Son;
allegedly is all-powerful except when role-playing as His own Son;
allegedly is all-knowing except when role-playing as His own Son;
allegedly is ever-present except when role-playing as His own Son;
allegedly remains invisible, even when role-playing as His own Son;
allegedly gives Himself things He already owns…
… all so He can allegedly role-play as three separate, but allegedly equal individuals who aren’t really separate or equal.
Disclaimer: The short video clip below concisely points out the absurdity of the “trinity” in a comedic setting. It should be viewed in that context, and in no way is condoning men dressing up like women, which is against The Law (Deut. 22:5).
Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a
man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so
[are] abomination unto the “I AM” thy God.
Are we to actually believe that this total confusion (1 Cor. 14:33) is what God had in mind “in the beginning” with His Word? God forbid!
Galatians 6:6-7
6:6 Let him that is taught in the Word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, THAT shall he also reap.
1 Corinthians 15:23-27
15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
15:24 Then [cometh] The End, when he shall have delivered up The Kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
15:25 For He (The ONLY True God and Father of our Lord Christ, the Saviour) must reign, till He (God) hath put all enemies under his (Christ’s) feet.
15:26 The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.
15:27 For He (God) hath put all things under his (Christ’s) feet. But when He (God) saith all things are put under [him (Christ), it is] manifest that He (God) is excepted, which did put all things under him (Christ).
15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto Him (God) that put all things under him (Christ), that God may be all in all (1 Cor. 11:3).
May the Word of God find its home in the hearts and minds of all true believers, as it has been with Christ since the beginning (Deut. 8:3).
Matthew 4:4 But he (Jesus) answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
