The Royal Air Force (RAF) at Gibraltar is currently operating under Spanish-imposed flight restrictions, but these measures have been confirmed to have no operational impact on RAF operations. With Gibraltar again surrendering its sovereignty, by allowing Madrid to control its port and airport entry points.
I wrote previously and warned against the so-called “agreement” and that Madrid can NEVER be trusted with even an inch, or they would take the proverbial mile, and this is more proof that I was right.
Three days after the news broke that the agreement with Spain and the EU was 99% agreed (“within kissing distance”), Spain did a victory fly-over over Gibraltar, using two British-made Hawker-Harrier Jump-jets, violating Gibraltar’s airspace, to show that they had won and Gibraltar had surrendered. Hang your heads in shame.
What the Agreement Means for Gibraltar. Madrid asserts jurisdiction (SOVEREIGNTY) in a long-standing dispute. Gibraltar’s airport has been used by the RAF for decades, serving both commercial flights and critical military operations. This escalation, from military helicopters to fighter-jets, comes after previous Spanish military helicopter violations of Gibraltar’s airspace.
Madrid is now claiming that Gibraltar’s airspace is Spanish airspace, denying the RAF the right to fly over Spanish airspace, whilst the Spanish air-force under orders from Madrid flies over British Gibraltar’s airspace.
They later followed the fly-over, continuing their usual acts of disrespect, by sailing yet another Spanish warship into Gibraltar’s territorial waters, whilst claiming that they are Spanish waters (claiming Spanish SOVEREIGNTY over British waters) and that Gibraltar has NO territorial waters.
Oh, how the mighty are fallen and the stupid idiot local politicians are selling Gibraltar down the river, or upstream without a paddle.
The RAF should start flying a full squadron of fighter-jets and bombers loaded with Nukes over Madrid, in a tit-for-tat exercise, to show Madrid who is the boss, and see how they like it. If the wimps in the UK Parliament had any backbone, and played chicken with Madrid, Madrid would chicken-out and have to back down.
The Royal Navy should also send warships into Spanish waters, every time Spanish warships or Guardia Civil vessels violate Gibraltar’s Territorial Waters, and see how they like that as well.
Two can play at that, and what is good for the goose, is also good for the gander.
What ever happened to “Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves”? Did Madrid learn NOTHING from the destruction of their Armada, by God and the British Royal Navy in 1588 and likewise the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805? Do they need a timely reminder? Those who refuse to learn the lessons from history are doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
