A political firestorm is erupting and Gibraltar is at the centre of it.
Fury Erupts As Starmer “Sells” Gibraltar (10-minute video)
From UK Insider – Keir Starmer is facing explosive accusations after reports emerged of behind-closed-doors negotiations that critics say undermine British sovereignty and betray the people of Gibraltar.
The video exposes:
• What Starmer’s government is allegedly offering up
• Why Gibraltar’s status is once again under threat
• How this deal could weaken Britain’s global standing
• Why voters are furious and MPs are quietly panicking
• And why many are calling this one of the worst foreign-policy scandals in years
Gibraltar has voted time and time again to remain British.
So why does it now look like decisions are being made without the people’s consent?
This isn’t diplomacy critics say it’s sell-out politics.
Excerpts from the video:
The new arrangement means passports will no longer be stamped at the land border, instead border checks will be moved to Gibraltar’s airport, making The Rock effectively part of the EU’s Schengen Zone for passport free movement – effectively part of Schengen – that’s rejoining EU structures by stealth.
The 15,000 workers Excuse – Around 15,000 people cross the border between Spain and the overseas territory everyday – that’s the justification. 15,000 workers, many Spanish, commute daily to Gibraltar. The deal removes land-border checks to facilitate this. But here’s the question: Why does facilitating Spanish workers require surrendering British border control? Why can’t we simply have efficient checks that allow regular commuters through quickly whilst maintaining sovereignty? The Answer: Because Spain demanded control as a price for smoother border crossings.
Gibraltar wants this deal because they voted “Remain”; but Gibraltar isn’t independent, it’s a British Overseas Territory. British Sovereignty shouldn’t be negotiable just because local residents prefer EU membership.
The government said the deal includes a clause by all sides, which makes explicitly clear that the final treaty does not impact sovereignty. That clause is meaningless. You can claim sovereignty isn’t impacted while Spanish guards who enters British territory, but that’s Orwellian Double Speak. If foreign officials can deny British citizens entry to British territory, sovereignty has absolutely been affected.
Protecting sovereignty by surrendering border control. That’s the opposite of protection.
Fury as Keir Starmer sells out Gibraltar to EU in latest ‘Brexit betrayal’
Excerpts from the MSN/Daily Express article –
Keir Starmer has been accused of yet another betrayal of a British overseas territory as he hands key powers to Brussels. In yet another Brexit sell-out, the Government is planning to hand Spanish border guards complete say over whether British citizens can enter the territory.
Those coming and going from The Rock will be forced to show their passports twice, once to Gibraltarian guards and again to Spanish guards, essentially giving Madrid a veto over whether Brits can enter the territory. Sir Iain Duncan Smith blasted the deal as a “ridiculous disaster” and yet more “cowardly posturing” by Sir Keir in his efforts to get a fresh deal with the EU. He fumed: “They’re using Gibraltar as a lever to get themselves back closer to Europe. He wants to undo Brexit.”
“I have argued before that ‘Starmer Remains a Remainer’ at heart but now he’s not even bothering to hide it – he’s going to try and take us back in.” – Keir Starmer has been accused of yet another betrayal of a British overseas territory as he hands key powers to Brussels. In yet another Brexit sell-out, the Government is planning to hand Spanish border guards complete say over whether British citizens can enter the territory.
Gibraltar Brexit Deal: EU, UK & Spain Reach Agreement | Next Steps Explained
Excerpts from the World Today Journal article –
The conclusion of this legal text marks the end of a lengthy process. It’s been nine and a half years since the UK officially left the EU, a decision starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 96.7% of Gibraltarian voters who favored remaining within the bloc.
Gibraltar’s government has welcomed the progress, emphasizing a commitment to clarity. The final treaty will be publicly available and subject to thorough review by the legislatures of Gibraltar, the UK, and the EU during the ratification process. this ensures accountability and allows for informed debate.
While the legal text is complete, several steps remain before the agreement comes into force:
• Legal Review: Brussels and London are currently conducting detailed legal assessments. There’s no firm deadline for completion.
• Translation: The treaty will be translated into all official EU languages.
• Council Adoption: The EU Council (representing member state governments) must adopt the treaty.
• European Parliament Consent: The European Parliament will vote on whether to consent to the agreement.
This deal isn’t without potential hurdles. Given the current political climate, it will face intense scrutiny from both the right-wing in the UK and Spain.
These political sensitivities mean the ratification process could be challenging, despite the center-left governments currently in power in both London and Madrid. (Deut. 5:32)
Negotiators complete work on treaty text, European Commission confirms
Excerpts from The Chronicle article – For the UK, the ratification process will start with a motion in the Gibraltar Parliament calling on the UK to ratify the treaty, after which it will have to be approved in the UK Parliament.
In the UK system, the treaty will follow the Constitutional Reform Act [CRAG] procedure, which involves the treaty being laid in the Houses of Parliament for 21 sitting days.
If there are no objections during this time, it is ratified automatically, though there will be opportunity for debate.
These negotiations did not start with Starmer. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo has been party to them since the beginning. The Gibraltar Messenger has repeatedly said to stay away from the European Union and Madrid. He said The Campo needs to unite with Christ as Governor and King. And as a first step, he advised the mayor of La Linea de la Concepcion Juan Franco to advocate for the Schengen border to be moved to the other sides of La Linea, leaving the southern border with Gibraltar free and open.
The Gibraltar Messenger is against this treaty, as outlined in related articles (Matt. 12:30). He is FOR Uniting The Campo of Gibraltar as a start to building God’s Kingdom on Earth, without politics (Deut. 33:20). And in The Kingdom, only God’s Law will be recognized.
The video mentions “Orwellian Double Speak” in regards to politicians saying sovereignty will be protected whilst they surrender border control. Pinocchio Picardo also has repeatedly said sovereignty will not be affected.
In a message clearly designed to resonate beyond the Gherkin, he said nothing in the treaty would alter or diminish the Rock’s British sovereignty or represent any concession in that respect. – Treaty is about ‘building a future, not rewriting the past’
Picardo also says it’s an excellent deal.
“This is a very jaundiced view of what is an excellent deal for Gibraltar,” Mr Picardo posted on social media… The agreement we have done with the EU was negotiated by the Gibraltar Government alongside Tory and Labour Ministers in the UK… It is an excellent deal for Gibraltar residents of all nationalities.” – Picardo tells Tory Brexiteers they are ‘wrong’ on Gibraltar treaty
One can choose to believe Pinocchio Picardo. Or one can believe Christ – GoG’s Treason over the Schengen Treaty and COVID.
Note: Gibraltar was British long before the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht.
